New Member to the WBDT Family

March 20, 2012

WBDT Members,

It is with great excitement and pleasure that I announce to you that I have asked Doug Davis to be the newest member of the WBDT staff and he has gladly accepted.

Doug currently serves as Senior Advisor for Policy for Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst and Director of the Senate Committee on Redistricting under Chairman Kel Seliger. A native Texan, Doug was born in Dallas, Texas. Doug holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, and a Law Degree from Texas Tech University.

Following law school, Doug moved to Austin, and has been involved in various areas of state government since 1996. Prior to working for Governor Dewhurst, Doug served as Assistant General Counsel at the Texas Department of Agriculture for then Ag Commissioner Rick Perry. Doug moved to the Lieutenant Governor’s office following the 1998 election, and has been working at the Capitol ever since. Following his work in the Lieutenant Governor’s office with Perry, Doug was the Director of both the Senate Redistricting Committee and the Senate Administration Committee. Doug re-joined the Lieutenant Governor’s staff in January 2003, when Governor Dewhurst was sworn in.

In addition to redistricting, Doug’s current policy assignments include alcohol regulation and state information technology issues. He is responsible for monitoring the Government Organization Committee and all Sunset Bills. During Legislative sessions he assists the Parliamentarian with referral of bills to committees, floor amendments and floor procedure.

Doug and his wife Karina have three children ages 6, 4 and 2.

We are delighted to have Doug as part of our already very talented staff and look forward to him coming on board officially after the first of April. Hopefully, you will all have the opportunity to meet Doug in the very near future and welcome him to the WBDT family.

Sincerely,

Tom Spilman

Executive Vice President
